Main draw wildcard for Jule Niemeier

Jule Niemeier (24) has already proven to the tennis world how good she can be. The Dortmund native had already played her way into the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2022. When she climbed to 61st place in the world rankings in the same year, her path to the top 50 seemed to be mapped out. But things turned out differently. The dynamic forward movement of the powerful right-hander came to a halt and Niemeier fell out of the top 100. But the enthusiastic Borussia Dortmund supporter bounced back and is currently ranked 87th in the WTA, and rising.

That's why she has now received a wildcard for the main draw at the ecotrans Ladies Open. "Jule is an outstanding grass court player and is currently on the way back to the top. She has earned this start here with us," says Tournament Director Barbara Rittner.

Jule Niemeier has exciting memories of the Steffi Graf Stadium in Berlin, the home of the ecotrans Ladies Open. Last year, she defeated the then defending champion Ons Jabeur in the first round and thrilled the crowd. However, a hand injury stopped her in round two (against Marketa Vondrousova). Niemeier says: "I'm very grateful for the wildcard for the main draw and I'm looking forward to the support of the fans in Berlin."

The ecotrans Ladies Open starts on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the qualifying matches. The main draw matches will start at 11 a.m. on Monday.
